WHITE MOUNTAINS MOTORSPORTS PARK

White Mountains Motor Sports Park in North Woodstock, NH was the next stop for the Senior Tour Auto Racers.  The weather had a touch of fall in the morning but soon the afternoon returned to summer.  You could feel the closing of the summer is approaching fast.  STAR started their day with warm ups from 1:00 till 3:00.  STAR’s Race Director was posted on the flag stand and gave each group a 10 minute warm up, first the Sportsmen and then the Modifieds  this continue for 2 hours of practice.  If you wanted track time this was the time.  It was a great time to gets the bugs out of your car and get use to the track.  The evening would bring the tour 2 heats and a feature.  The first to hit the track was the sportsmen for their heat race.  When the checkered came down it was Gary Moore from NH in the #7 Pinto to shoot out to take the lead from the pack.  Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe went side by side to battle for second.  Meanwhile John Mulcahy from Ma in the #57 Mustang made his way to fourth and was looking for an opening.   Then Zemla pulled out to single file the racing and pulled into second spot giving the pack an open line.  Mulcahy made his move on the outside to third and when the checkered came down it was on Moore in the #7 to take the 1st victory for the tour.  Zemla in the #43 took down a second and to close off the pack was Mulcahy with the #57 for a 3rd.  The modifieds hit the track for their heat.  It was James Allen from Ma in the #46 Monza to take a lead from the pack.  Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto followed Allen.  Charlie Lima from Ma in the 2X coupe and Ed Mulligan in the #61 Pinto drove side by side for third.   When the checked was brought down it was on Allen in the #46 to take the second victory for the tour.  Ferland in the #21 took down second place with Charlie Lima in the 2X topping off the pack with a third.

At feature time Star conducted a race from the past, when Modifieds and Sportsmen drove together “A Race Within a Race”.  The modifieds rolled out first followed by the Sportsmen.  When the green came down it was off to racing for the Star Tour.   In the modified group Danny Ferland in the #21 Pinto shot out to take the lead from the modifieds.  In the Sportsmen group Alec Gause in the #75 Vega took the lead for the Sportsmen group.   Up front it was Ferland in the #21 and the 61 of Ed Mulligan racing side by side for 1st place with James Allen in the #46 now slotting into 3rd place.  In the Sportsmen group it was Alec Gause in the #75 and Alan Zemla in the #43 shooting for 1st place with Gary Moore in the #7 following with a 3rd.  Then it became a single file racing for both Modifieds and Sportsmen.  The checked came down on Ed Mulligan from RI in the #61 Pinto to take the feature win for the Modified division.   To take 2nd place was Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto and to top off the pack with a 3rd was James Allen from Ma in the #46 Monza.  In the Sportsmen group it was Alec Gause from NH in the #75 Vega to take the checkered and the feature win for the Sportsmen division.  Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe took a very close second with Gary Moore from NH in the #7 Pinto topping off the pack with a third.

The winners of the features were brought track side to do STAR's traditional “Lap of Victory”.  Side by side Ed Mulligan Modified feature winner and Alec Gause Sportsmen feature winner, each with a checkered flag did their victory lap.  The fans applauded as they paraded around the track side by side.  Then they were brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.
