NOSTALGIA
WEEKEND AT THE NEW WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL
On
Saturday August 2nd, and August 3rd the Senior
Tour Auto Racers were at the Waterford Speedbowl,
Waterford
, Ct for the Vintage Nostalgia Weekend.
On Saturday Star was on display on the midway of
Waterford
for all the fans to see the cars up close.
It was nice to see so many fans stop by and talk to the Star
members. On Saturday night
the Star members got together in the camp area for a barbeque with all
sort of meat from steak to hot dogs, salads and deserts.
Sunday morning started the day with breakfast cooked by the Star
members. French toast,
bacon, eggs, sausages to fruits and salads covered the Star breakfast
tables as the Star members joined by the Acot members ate until they
were full. One thing I have
to say about the Star members they sure like good food!!
Sunday the cars would hit to the track with warm ups, heats and
features for both the Sportsmen and Modified divisions.
The first heat to hit the track was the Sportsmen 10-lapper were
Tom Cavanaugh from Ma in his black #1 coupe took the first checkered for
the Star Tour. In the
modified division it was anyone race until the last lap when Roland
Cassidy from NH in his turquoise #01 Pinto took over the lead on the
last lap to capture the second checkered flag for the day. In the
Sportsmen 15-lap feature Richard Tervo from Ma in his #74 coupe
dominated the pack on the half way mark. Then he lost his power steering
and almost lost his position. But
Tervo drove hard and kept his #74 out front to take the win.
Gary Moore from NH in the #00 Nova swooped in to take a very
close second trailed by David Posiktt from Ma in his #77 coupe to top
off the top three winners. The
last race of the day was the Modified 15-lap feature.
It was nice to see the founders of Star, President Charlie Lima
from Ma in his 2X coupe and Vice-President Roger Bowlby from NH in his
¼ coupe going at it side by side lap after lap.
This is something you do not see everyday!
When the checkered flag flew down, it was Roger Bowlby in the ¼
car to take the win for the Modified 15-lap feature.
Roland Cassidy in his #01 Pinto took second with Charlie Lima in
his #2X coupe to top off with a third.
Star would like to thank the Board of Directors, Board of
Advisors and the members who were in attendance Sunday morning to help
cook the annual breakfast. This
is a lot of work and the help was much appreciated.
Star also would like to thank Waterford Speedbowl for all their
hospitably and a great weekend.
