WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL |

On July 24th the Senior Tour Auto Racers were at the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Ct for the Waterford Speedbowl Nostalgia Night with16 Star cars on hand. Star started their day with warm ups only to be shorten by Mother Nature. The rain came and it poured for about 2 hours but looking on the computer it showed three bands of rain and then to clear up. But this didn’t seem to bother the Star members for they were having a good time jumping from trailer to trailer with food and good conversation. Waterford held out for the rain to stop and after the 3 bands went through it was time to dry off the track and go racing. Because of the delay in starting the racing and with every thing behind time, Star did one feature race; Sportsmen and Modifieds ran together, a race within a race. It was nice to see Waterford bring back the old way of starting by doing an on track start. But this is not new to Star for when they travel up North, Star has been doing an on track start for years but it was nice to see that the southern tracks are now picking up the trend. The Starter stood on the inside groove of the track and as the cars can down the front stretch he waved the green to start the race. Charlie Lima in his #10 and David Viera in his #19 road side by side until Viera took the inner groove to leave the outer groove open for Darryl Dutch in his #6 and Mike Camp in his #4 to take over first and second place. In the middle of the pack with the sportsmen division Charlie Wilcox lead the sportsmen with James Allen in the #44 right behind Wilcox. In the front of the pack Dutch still lead with his #6 to be followed by Mike Camp in the # 4. On the last few laps Charlie Lima in the #10 and Kenneth Bamford in the #66 battled for 3rd spot. Now in the Sportsmen division Wilcox had trouble with his car and had to pull off the track leaving the race open for Allen to pull into first position followed by Gary Moore in the #84 to take up second and Rick MacDowell to follow in third place. Then the checkered came down on Darryl Dutch from RI in his #6 to take down the modified feature win. Mike Camp from Ct in the #4 took a second and Kenneth Bamford from RI in the #66 top off the pack with a third place. The flag came down on the Sportsmen with James Allen from Ma in his #44 to take the sportsmen feature win. Gary Moore from NH in the #84 pulled off a second and Rick MacDowell from Ma in the #76 finishes off with a third. After the race was over Star rolled off the track up the hill and onto the midway so the fans could get a close look at the cars and talk to the members. It was nice to see so many fans stopping by to say hello and each one with his or her story of racing back in the good old days. Star would like to thank Waterford Speedbowl for a great night of racing.
