WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL

Waterford Speedbowl

On July 25th and 26th Senior Tour Auto Racers were at the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Ct for their Annual Nostalgia Weekend. On Saturday July 25th Star was on displayed on the midway of the Speedbowl.  Lined up on one side of Stars’ display it looked like a Pinto revolution and the other side was the coupe display.  The crowd enjoyed browsing around the cars and speaking to the Star members.  After the racers were over Star retired to the camping grounds of Waterford Speedbowl to have a barbeque and good conversation.  For those who had taken motels left their cars behind in the Star camping ground, it looked like a parking lot for vintage racecars.

Then on July 26th Star started their day off with their annual breakfast.  Members joined in for a full coarse breakfast.  Star would like to thank the members who help cook and clean up after the breakfast.  Then it was time to hit to the track for warm ups, heats, and features for both Sportsmen and Modified divisions.

Because of Mother Nature threaten with severe storms Star held is feature races first trying to beat out Mother Nature.  In the Sportsmen division feature Tammy Barboza from Ma in her #10 Eddie Flemke Pinto really showed the Sportsmen all she had by dominating the field to take her first checkered flag with the group.  Tammy led 15 out of 15 laps for the Sportsmen Feature.  Congratulations go out to Tammy on her first win.  Topping off second was Charlie Wilcox from Ct in his #111 coupe and to finish off the pack with a third was Maureen Dion from Ma in her #59 Pinto.  It was a good day for the ladies of Star.

In the modified division it was wheel to wheel action as the Star modified cars took down 15 laps bumper to bumper, wheel to wheel action.  The Pole position-changing lap after lap until Charlie Lima from Ma in his #2X coupe of Eddie Flemke took over and took the second flag for the group that day.  David Viera from Ma in his #19 Pinto pulled in the second position while James Allen from Ma in his #46 Monte Carlo finished the pack off with a third.

It was kind of a special day for the feature winners of Star as the winners of the feature races that day were father and daughter and both with Ed Flemke’s cars.  Father Charlie Lima with the 2X coupe of the Modifieds and Tammy Lima Barboza with the 10 Pinto of the sportsmen and cause me being the mother and wife and the Race Director of Star I was quite proud of them.

Then the day seem to get better and Mother Nature was cooperating and held back the rain so Star lined up for their heat races.  First the sportsmen hit the track with David Poskitt from Ma in his #77 coupe taking down the heat race for the Sportsmen division.  Then the modifieds hit the track where David Viera from Ma in the #19 took the last checkered for the day.  Star would like to send out its very special thank you to Terry Ames and Waterford Speedbowl for a great two-day event.
