Mother Nature is having no grace this year as week after week she shows her power on making a damper on the weekends. If not on a Friday then it will be on a Saturday. Star’s double- header weekend was cut short by rain on Friday night June 17th when Lee USA in Lee, NH had to cancel their night of racing. But on Saturday July 18th was a go at the Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH for the Star group. Star got an early start at noontime as the members gather together to have a pre-picnic of all kinds of appetizers and jokes. Then at 2:00 Star started their day with warm ups from 2:00 till 4:00. Race Director Mary Lima gave a 10-minute interval session for the sportsmen and then for the modifieds for the 2 hour warm up time. When warm ups were done it was time for Star to have their annual picnic as they do every year at Twin State Speedway. As the members starting to cook the rain came and it poured for about 15 minutes and then the sun broke out and was beautiful for the rest of the evening. But this didn’t seem to bother the Star members for they were having a good time jumping from trailer to trailer with food and good conversation. Star would like to thank all the cars that participated in helping to dry off the track so racing would start on time. THANKS GUYS! The sportsmen were on tap first as they began with their 8-lap heat race where David Grassie from Ma in his new 711 coupe showed the sportsmen how it was done by taking the win for the sportsmen heat. Following the sportsmen heat was the modifieds with their 8-lap heat were Jamie Ferland from NH in his 194 Pinto took the heat win for the modified division. I have to say Twin State had a lot of cars and divisions there for a good night of racing. At feature time the sportsmen hit the track first for their 15-lap feature. Gary Moore from NH in the 7X coupe and David Grassie from Ma in his #711 coupe moved side by side lap after lap until Charlie Wilcox from Ct in his 111 coupe passed on the outside to take the lead. Moore and Grassie continued to battle for 2nd and 3rd place. Then Moore pulled out to take a lead on Grassie and to close the gap on the 111 of Wilcox. When the checkered came down it was Wilcox to take the feature win, followed by Moore for a 2nd and Grassie topped off the field with a 3rd. The top three were brought trackside for out of car interview and a presentation of trophies. Now the modifieds were lined up waiting for their 15-lap feature. Brian Robie from NH in his 99 Pinto shot out to take a good lead on the pack. James Allen from Ma in his #46 and Jamie Ferland from NH in his 194 Pinto rode side by side until veteran Bob Pringe from NH in the #84 Pinto took over the lead as he has done so many times before. Pringle a veteran of Twin State Speedway knows his way around better than anyone else. Robie continue to ride side by side with Pringle. Then it was Charlie Grassie from Ma in his #15RI Pinto from the back of the pack making his move to close in on the pack lap after lap. The checkered came down and it was Bob Pringle in the #84 to take the modified win. Brian Robie in the #99 followed with a close second but it was Grassie in the #15RI and Ferland in the #194 with a photo finish, Ferland taking a third only by “6” inches. The top three were brought trackside for out of car interview and a presentation of trophies.
