Twin
State
Speedway
in
Claremont
,
NH
was the first stop for the double-header weekend for the Senior Tour
Auto Racers. On July 18th
Star rolled into Twin State Speedway with warm greetings from owner
Dennis Fleury. Star’s day
was going to be a busy one with warm-ups from 12:00 till 3:00 and after
warm ups Star held its annual picnic.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, fruit, salads and deserts of all
sort covered the Star picnic tables.
It was nice to see the owner Dennis Fleury, his wife and the
officials of Twin State all stop by and have a bit to eat and good
conversation with the Star members before racing began.
It was hot with overcastted skies.
Rain was in the forecast but it was all up to Mother Nature now.
Star’s first 15-lap feature to roll out onto the track was the
Sportsmen Division. Bob
Bateman from RI in his #17 Ford Pinto took over the lead half way
through the race to take down the checked for the Sportsmen division.
James Allen from Ma in his #46
Monte Carlo
finishes second and topping off third place was Dick Murphy from Ma in
his #V8 Ford coupe. Star’s
second 15-lap feature was the Modified Division.
Charlie Lima from Ma in his 2X coupe and Skip Stearns from NH in
his #84 Pinto battled side by side for first place lap after lap, only
to look into their rearview mirrors to see veteran Bob Pringle in his
#92 coupe, Danny Ferland in his #21 Pinto and Dewitt Davis in his #211
sedan breathing down on Lima and Stearns. With five laps to go Ferland
made his move to take down the checkered for the modified division.
Lima
and
Davis
battled it out for second place.
Lima
crossed his 2X coupe over the finish line to take down a second place.
Topping of the field for third place was Dewitt Davis from NH in his
#211. The top three place
winners from both divisions were taken to
Twin
State
’s
Victory Circle
to be interviewed, to take photos and presented with trophies. Star
would like to thank all the members who brought dishes of food for the
annual picnic. Star sends
out a very special thank you to Twin State Speedway for their
hospitality and a great night of racing
