Sportsmen Feature Winner - Skip Stearns | Modified Feature Winner - Daniel Ferland |
It was a
very busy weekend for the Senior Tour Auto Racers, as it was a “Double
Header Weekend”. First up
on Saturday 8/9 it was at the STAR Speedway in Epping, NH and then the
Tour traveled on Sunday 8/10 to Hudson Speedway in Hudson, NH.
The car count was great and the racing was even better!
Cars from all over New England made the trip. The weather
was the best it has been all summer for both days.
It was nothing but “Green Flags” for the weekend. Let’s
start off with Star Speedway. The
day began with afternoon warm ups. The evening would bring the tour 2
heats and 2 features with an on track “Meet and Greet” with the
Senior Tour Auto Racers. Star
Sportsmen rolled onto the track first for their heat race.
When the green came down it was off to racing for the Star
Sportsmen. It was anyone’s
win as the positions changed from lap to lap.
When the checkered came down it was on Joe Gause from NH in the
#0 Nova to take the first of many checkered flags for the weekend.
Board of Director Gary Moore from NH has been out ill for the
first part of the season but it was great to see Gary back and see him
take second place in the #7 Pinto. Topping off the pack with a third was
Charlie Lima from Ma in the 2X coupe. The
Modifieds were up next for their heat race.
It was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 to take down the second
checkered for the tour. Brian
Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto pulled off a second and topping off the
field with a third was Rich Mosher from CT in his #17 coupe. Then it was
Star’s Speedway‘s “Meet and Greet” time for the Senior Tour.
One by one Senior Tour cars came out filling up the complete
front stretch to meet the fans of Star Speedway.
The track opened up the gates and let the fans come down to meet
the Senior Tour drivers. It
was great to see autographs being signed and children sitting in the
cars to have their pictures taken. You
could hear stories all up and down the front stretch from the fans and
the drivers. It was a great time! Then it was
feature time as the Senior Tour Sportsmen hit the track first.
When the checkered came down it was on Skip Stearns from NH in
his #7X coupe to take the victory for the Sportsmen division.
Charlie Lima from Ma in his 2X coupe took a very close second and
rounding out the pack with a close third was Gary Moore from NH in the
#7 Pinto. The top three were
brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies. The
Modifieds were lined up and ready to hit the track for their feature.
When the last checkered for the evening came down it was Daniel
Ferland. from NH in his #21 Pinto to take the victory for the
Modified division. James
Ferland from NH in his #194 Pinto took a very close second and topping off the
pack with a third was Alec Gause from NH in his #75 Vega.
The top three were brought trackside for an out of car interview
and awarded with trophies. Senior
Tours would like to thank STAR Speedway and their entire staff for all
their hospitality and a great night of racing! |
