STAR SPEEDWAY

Star Speedway was canceled out on June 29th due to rain.  Thanks to Star Speedway, Senior Tour was invited back to make up their appearance on August 3rd.  The weather was the best it has been all summer and tonight was nothing but green for racing.  Senior Tour poured into the pit area of Star Speedway with 21 vintage cars from all over New England.  Weekend after weekend you can see these cars on the highways traveling from track to track to give the fans a touch of vintage racing at its best.

The day began with afternoon warm ups.  The evening would bring the tour 2 heats and 2 features. But let’s go back to the pit area for a minute, just to show you what goes on behind the scenes of the STAR Tour.  Tonight Senior Tour was surprised with a visit by member Dick Crotty.  Dick has been very ill for a long time and it was so good to see him come out to be with the members.  In other areas of the pits you could see current members spending time with the new cars and new members, just good old pit chatter.  In the corner you could see the ladies of STAR cooking and making sure members have something to eat and drink.

Now it was time for the Sportsmen to hit the track for their heat race.  When the green was waved it was driver John Mulcahy from Ma in the #57 Mustang surprising shot out to take the lead.  But only after a few laps Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 couple battled on the outside of Mulcahy to try to take over first place.  Moving into third position was Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan and the #50 coupe of Scott Keddy from NH slotted into fourth place.  Positions were changing lap after lap and it was tough to see who would take down the first win of the evening. When the checkered came down it was on the #43 of Alan Zemla to take the first victory for the evening with Scott Keddy in the #50 crossing over the finish line with a very close second and to top off the pack with a third was John Mulcahy with the #57.

Then the modifieds hit the track for their heat race.  It was Rick Mosher from Ct in the #17 coupe to take the lead from the pack.  Charlie Wilcox from Ct in the #19 Pinto followed Mosher lap after lap.  James Allen from Ma in the #46 Monza went side by side with Gregg Massini from Ma in the #19 Vega for a battle for third.  Then Massini made a move on the outside to take over the lead and the second victory for the tour that evening. Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Pinto made his way through the pack to pick up a second spot for the evening with Rick Mosher in the #17 topping the pack off with a third.

The heat races were close with positions changing from lap to lap.  It was anyone win tonight!!!! Great Racing Guys!!!!!!

Then at feature time member Robert Dionne from NH in his classic 1968 Ford Fairlane paced the feature races.  The sportsmen were up first for their feature race.  Joe Gause from NH in the #0 Nova and son Alec Gause from NH in the #75 Pinto lead the pack until halfway mark.  Right behind the leaders was Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X coupe and Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan. Then on the inside Stearns made his move to 1st with Harless on his tail.  It was Stearns on the inside and Gause on the outside with Harless trying to slot into third with Scott Keddy  in the #50 right on his tail.  Tight bumper to bumper racing.  When all was done it was  Stearns in the #7x picking up the win for the sportsmen that evening.  Robert Harless in the #8 took a very close second with Joe Gause in the #0 taking the third from Keddy by inches.

The top three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

The modifieds were staged and ready to go for their feature race.  It was James Allen from Ma in the #46 Monza and Bobby Turner in the #7 Pinto to lead the pack.  Gregg Massini from Ma in the #19 Vega followed third with Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto running fourth.  Then Turner made his move to first with Allen running close second.  Massini was still running third with Charlie Lima from Ma in the 2X coupe picking up fourth over Ferland.  Single line racing was the scene for the modifieds.  Turner, Allen, Massini, and Lima running top four.  When the checkered came down it was on Bobby Turner in the #7 to take the modified win for the tour that evening.  James Allen in the #46 finished second with Gregg Massini in the #19 to top off the pack with a third.  The top three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

Senior Tour would like to thank STAR Speedway for all their hospitality and a great night of racing!!!!!
