Forth of July Star rolled into
Seekonk Speedway with over 20 vintage stockcars to celebrate the forth
with a bang! Cars from
New York
,
Connecticut
,
Rhode Island
,
Massachusetts
, and
New Hampshire
were on hand. Star started
their day with warm-ups in the afternoon to be followed by two features
for the evening. It
was nice to see the members gathering together having fun and joking all
day, something you would see back when these grand old cars ran at
Seekonk Speedway. The first
feature was the Sportsmen division where I have to say put on quite a
show. Bumper to bumper side
by side working together the Sportsmen made their way around the track
giving the fans what it used to be like at the Seekonk Speedway back in
the 60's and 70's. On the
half way mark Rick MacDowell from Ma in his beautiful red #76 Pinto
worked his way to the front and led the Sportsmen to his first victory
for the 2009 season. Robert
Harless out of
New York
in his #8 a 1937 Ford sedan and David Poskitt from Ma with his #77 a
1937 Chevy coupe battled for second position.
Harless beating Poskitt only by a bumper to pick up second spot
for the evening with Poskitt finishing off with a third.
Rick MacDowell was brought to
Victory Lane
to be presented with a trophy for his win.
The modified division rolled out onto the track with some of the
finest restore vintage cars from all over the northeast.
Among the drivers was veteran of Seekonk Speedway George Summers
with his well know #21. Roger
Bowlby was on hand with his beautiful sleek black 1/4 car originally
driven by Lee Allard and Charlie Lima with his newly resorted #2X coupe
of Eddie Flemke were only part of the history that hit the track that
evening. Bob Bateman from
Rhode Island
in sleek #17 Ford Pinto was brought to
Victory Lane
to join Sportsmen winner Rick MacDowell.
To top off second place was David Viera in his #19 Ford Pinto and
third went to Dick Crotty from NH in his # 32 Ford Pinto.
Again it was another night for the Pinto Revolution for the
Modifieds of the Star group. Star
would like to thank Seekonk Speedway for their hospitality and a great
night of racing.
