The
Groveland Historical Society held its 11th annual "Pines Speedway
Reunion" on Saturday October 5, 2013. The setting was on the
beautiful Merrimac River, in Groveland, Ma on the original site where
once the Pines Speedway sat. The
weather could not have been any better, sunny, warm a summer day. The
crowd poured into the site of the old track to pay tribute to this great
but not forgotten speedway. Where ever you turned you could see
some of the greatest drivers from the New England area. Under the
large white tent were special exhibits, vintage photos, scrapbooks and
memorabilia of the Pines Speedway. This year’s honorees were Danny
Wilson, Art Rousseau, Kenny Small, Howie Brown and “Smokey” Nathan
Boutwell. It was great to
see so many Star cars and members in attendance.
On hand to represent Star was Dwight Lowes #50 coupe and the #51
coupe, Charlie Lima #2X coupe, Richard Eastman #0 Pinto and the #0
Gremlin, Dennis Lowes #18 super, Joe Gause #75 Vega , Paul Keddy #50
coupe and John Monaghan with the #5 coupe. Very popular was Richard
Eastman's display trailer in dedication to the late Ollie Silva.
The trailer was filled with photos and trophies that Ollie had
received. The afternoon festivities started with the annual starting of
the engines as a tribute to the Pines Speedway.
If you missed this show you missed out on a great time! |
