On
July 28th Oxford Plains Speedway,
Oxford
,
Maine
was the next stop for the Star Tour.
Rain was in the forecast and it was a very slim chance that there
would be any racing that night.
Mother Nature brought fog, mist and rain as everybody waited to
see if she would give Oxford Plains a break.
About 3:30 under overcastted skies the warm up sessions began.
Star hit the track for their warm ups.
At 6:30 still under overcastted skies Star rolled on the track to
get in their 10-lap heat race. Terry
Huston from Me in his #9 a 1969 Chevy Camaro took down the checkered
flag for the Star Tour heat race that evening.
Oxford
was trying to get in as much racing as possible before Mother Nature
would put a halt on the show. The
drivers of
Oxford
’s divisions one by one rolled on to the track to get all their heats
in. At feature time Star was
the first feature to roll out on the track for their 20 lap feature
races. In the Modified
division Vito Colaneri Sr. from
Maine
in his #55 a 1972 Chevy Vega Wagon dominated the first half of the race,
only to have a malfunction and put Colaneri out of the race.
Then Terry Huston from Me in his #9 pulled to the front with Tim
Reynolds from Me in the #13 and Darryl Dutch from RI in the #9 on his
tail. Then Charlie Lima from
Ma in his 2X coupe drove from the back of the pack to the lead.
With only a couple laps to go
Lima
had a fuel problem and was unable to finish the race. Now it was up to
Huston, Dutch and Reynolds, who would cross the line first?
The checkered flag flew down on Huston in the #9 to capture the
Modified Feature. Darryl
Dutch crossed over with the #9 to take a second with Tim Reynolds in his
#13 taking a very close third. In
the Sportsmen 20 lap feature David Poskitt from Ma in his #77 a 1937
Chevy coupe dominated the Sportsmen by taking the checkered for the win.
Alan Robinson from Me in the #81 a 1965 Buick took down a second
and to top off the pack with a third was Bob Bateman from RI in his #17
a 1978 Ford Pinto. As the
winners pulled up to the start finish line to collect their trophies,
Mother Nature said it was time and open up the skies.
Unfortunate Oxford Plains
Speedway
had to call off all other features for that evening.
Trophies were presented to the top three spots in each division
of Star. Accepting the
trophies in the Modified Division were - Terry Huston 1st,
Darryl Dutch 2nd and Tim Reynolds 3rd.
In the Sportsmen Division accepting the trophies were David
Posiktt 1st Alan Robinson 2nd and Bob Bateman 3rd.
Then it was fun time in the pits as President of Star Charlie
Lima was presented with a token of
Maine
? The GRAND MOOSE HAT!!
It was nice to see the BEARING BOYS – David and Charlie that
day working on the same project.
And
does anyone know were the wine went????

Star
would like to thank all that supported Star that day and a very special
thank you to Oxford Plains Speedway for a great evening of racing.
