MONADNOCK SPEEDWAY JUNE 16TH

Monadnock Speedway was canceled out on June 2nd due to rain.  Thanks to Monadnock Speedway, Star was invited back to make up their appearance on June 16th.  This was an open date for Star and I know a lot of the members had plans but to see 19 cars show up for a makeup date was unbelievable.   All I have to say is “Thank You” to all the Star members who made this make up a huge success.

For all you Riverside Park Speedway fans, you can see the great project that promoter Larry Cirillo did with the Riverside Park Speedway seats.  He has a whole division of seats that where at Riverside.  A little touch of History at Monadnock.!!!

Star started their day with afternoon warm ups.  The evening shows would bring the Star Tour two 8-lap heats and two 15-lap features.

On tap first was the Sportsmen division for their 8-lap heat race, where father and son, Joe Gause from NH in the #0 Nova and Alec Gause from NH in the #75 Vega battled to keep the lead.  Trailing close behind them was Alan Zemla from Me in his #43coupe and John Dipetro from Ma in his #7 coupe.  When the pack opened up it was Charlie Wilcox from Ct in the #111 coupe pushing his way through to the front to take the win!!

The Modifieds then hit the track for their 8-lap heat.  Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto pulled into first place but Ferland lost it for a second just giving Paul LaPlante from RI in the #02 coupe the opening he needed to take up first position and held onto it until the checked came down to take the second win for the tour.

At feature race time Star member Bob Donahue paced both feature races for Star with his beautiful restored 1937 Chevy coupe.  The crowd clapped as the vintage car paced the vintage race cars.

The Sportsmen rolled out onto the track first for their 15-lap feature.  Joe Keefner from Ma in the #2 Gremlin and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe went side by side locking in the pack.  Just behind was Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan and Rick MacDowell from Ma in the #76 Pinto.  The pack was tight lap after lap.  When the checkered came down it was on Keefner to take the win.  Zemla closed in second with Harless topping of the pack with a third place finish.  Top three were brought to track side for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

Then it was time for the Modifieds to hit the track.  Anything is expected with the Modifieds!  When the green flag came down it was once again father and son leading the pack as Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 and Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194 driving side by side until James Allen made his move on the outside to capture the win for the Modifieds that evening.  Jamie Ferland took second and from the back Gary Moore rolled in closing off the pack with a third place finish. Top three were brought to track side for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

Star would like to thank Monadnock Speedway for all their hospitality and a great night of racing.
