STAR
OPENS 2008 SEASON AT
MONADNOCK
SPEEDWAY
Despite
the bad weather in Southern New England, cold and raw Star traveled north
and rolled into Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, New Hampshire on Saturday
May 10th to sunny and warm conditions.
The stands were filled with fans and the pits filled with cars, it
was going to be a perfect night for racing at Monadnock Speedway.
Star
started their day with afternoon warm-ups for both Sportsmen and Modified
divisions. The Star tech
inspectors were busy inspecting the Star cars getting them ready for a
great night of racing. The
hospitably of Monadnock was first class with all the staff of Monadnock
coming by the Star pits to say “Hello”.
Many fans visited the Star pits to look over some of the finest
restored vintage racecars in New England.
In
the evening Star was geared up for two 15 -lap features.
The Sportsmen hit the track first for their 15-lap feature.
Darryl Dutch in his #6 took over the led with Bob Bateman in his
#17 closing in on Dutch. The
checkered flew down on the #6 of Darryl Dutch from Rhode Island in his
1973 Ford Pinto, originally driven by Maynard Troyer.
Bob Bateman from Rhode Island finish off with a very close second
in his #17 a 1978 Chevy Pinto and new driver to Star Jay Spillers from MA
in the #44 a 1937 Chevy coupe finish third.
Then
the Star Modifieds hit the track for their 15-lap feature.
Close to the pack, bumper-to-bumper these grand old modifieds
showed the fans what racing was like back in the “Good Old Days”.
Roland Cassidy from NH pulled his newly resorted 1979 Ford Pinto
#01 to the front. Dewitt Davis
from NH in his #211 a 1932 Chevy Sedan and Danny Ferland also from NH in
his #21 a 1974 Ford Pinto ran side by side to the finish. Who would take
second? Cassidy took down the
checked for the modified win with Davis pulling off a second and Ferland
topping off third. Trophies
were presented to the top three winners in both divisions.
Star
