Somebody
higher up must have had a talk with Mother Nature, because it was one of
the best nights for racing weather wise.
Senior Tour Auto Racers were on tap at the Lee USA Speedway in
Lee NH on June 20th as 18 cars hauled from all over the east
coast. Cars hauled in from
as far as New York to the board line of Maine.
Star filled the infield from one end to the other with all
different types of cars for the fans to enjoy.
And as always you could hear the laughter and the joking
going on out of this group. Never
a dull moment with these guys! Star
started their day with 2 rounds of practice and then Lee USA brought all
divisions that night onto the track for an autograph session.
Lee opened up the gates to let the fans come down to meet all the
drivers and view the cars up close.
It was great to see the Star members signing autographs on tee
shirts, photos, and flags and talking to the fans.
Many of the Star drivers were interviewed by the New England
Racing Show, a local TV channel that covers short track racing in New
England. This will be shown
in next week’s show and I will post so everyone can enjoy. The
children were getting a big kick by sitting in the cars but I think the
drivers got just as much a kick out of it as the children.
Then
it was off to racing! Star
was scheduled for 2 heats and 2 features.
The first to hit the track was the Sportsmen division for their
heat race. The green came
down and it was race time. John
Mulcahy from Ma in his #57 Mustang , who by the way received the
hardship award for season 2013 for all his bad luck mechanical wise,
drove to the front and took down the first checkered for the tour that
evening. I told John you
must have made a visit over the winter to “The Boehler Garage”.
Mike Horch from NH in the #1/4 car pulled a very close
second. Looks like Mike has
his set up straighten out because this one was on rails.
No more spin outs for Mike!
Robert Harless from NY in his #8 Sedan topped the pack off with a
third place. The Modifieds
were lined up and ready to hit the asphalt for their heat race.
It was a photo finish as Ed Mulligan from RI in his #61 Pinto
drove to the win with Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto just inches
away to take down a second. Right
behind Poirier was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Pinto rounding out the
pack with a third. When
it was time for the features the first to hit the asphalt was the
Sportsmen where Joe Gause in his “Big Bad Nova” took down the third
checkered for the tour that evening.
Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan took a very close second
and to top off the pack with a third was Alec Gause from NH with his #75
Vega. The winner was brought
trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with a trophy. In
the Modified division it was Charlie Wilcox from Ct in his #19 Pinto to
take down the win for the Modified division.
Ed Mulligan from RI in his #61 Pinto closed in with a close
second and rounding off the pack with a third was Danny Ferland from NH
with his #21 Pinto. The
winner was brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded
with a trophy. Senior
Tour Auto Racers would like to thank Lee USA Speedway and their entire
staff for all their hospitality and a “Great Night of Racing”.
Star will be returning to Lee USA Speedway for their second
appearance on August 29th. |
