LEE USA SPEEDWAY |

On August 31st
STAR rolled into Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH for their second appearance
for the 2012 season. What a
night it was as 21 vintage racers filled the pit area of Lee USA
Speedway. One by
one they hauled into the pit area with no room to spare.
Coupes, Sedans, Pintos, Vegas, Mustangs, big blocks, small
blocks, flatheads just about every type of vintage racecar was present
and ready to go. Star
members for all over New England attended.
To start the day Star had two sets of warm-ups.
First the Sportsmen division took their time on the track to get
ready for the evening events and then the modified division took their
turns also getting the cars ready for the night racing.
Then it was off to racing as the STAR Sportsmen took to the track
first. The pack was tight
the pack was fast with no gaps. Robert
Harless from NY in the #8 sedan and Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X
coupe battled for first place.
Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe and John Mulcahy from
Ma in the #57 Mustang were right on the tail of the leaders.
Just one slip up and it would be anyone’s win.
Stearns and Harless went lap after lap with only inches between
them. When the checkered
waved it was on Harless to take the first victory for the tour that
evening. Stearns pulled a
very close second and Mulcahy pulled enough forward to take third spot. Now it was time
for modifieds to hit the track for their heat race.
When the green came down it was Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194
Pinto to shoot out to take the lead on the pack.
But it wasn’t long when Bobby Turner from Me made his move to
take over the lead from Ferland. Danny
Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto and Ed Mulligan from RI in the #61
Pinto battled for third place. But
coming through the pack was Vito Colaneri from Me in the #55 Vega.
Cars shifted for second and third place and when the checkered
came down it was on Bobby Turner to take the second victory for the tour
that evening. Danny Ferland
made his way to take down a second and to top off the pack for a third
was Vito Colaneri. Now it was time
for Lee USA Speedway to have the “Rides for Kids” time.
I want to thank all the STAR cars that went out on the track to
join in this event and there were a lot of you!!
The children love to ride in the vintage cars and you could see
them fighting which one to get in. Thanks
go out to the members that participated in the “Rides for Kids.” Then it was
time for the feature races of STAR.
The Sportsmen hit to the asphalt first for their 15-lap feature.
It was Rick MacDowell from Ma in the #76 Camero to take the lead
on the pack for lap after lap, then John Mulcahy from Ma in the #57
Mustang drove to the inside of MacDowell to slot in second place.
Skip Stearns in the #7X coupe and Alan Zelma in the #43 coupe
battled for third place. MacDowell
and Mulcahy drove side by side until the checkered came down on Mulcahy
to take the third victory for the tour that evening.
MacDowell pulled in a very close second with Stearns to top off
the pack with a third. John
Mulcahy was brought to trackside for a victory lap and then an out of
car interview and award with the first place trophy. Now
the modifieds were hitting the track for their 15-lap feature.
When the green came down it was off to racing for the modifieds
with Vito Colaneri from Me in the #55, Gary Moore from NH in the #7,
Charlie Lima from Ma in the #10 and Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 all
heading for the led position. Then
creeping up on them was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Pinto.
The pack was tight with half way to go as Moore and Colaneri went
side by side for first place. Lima
and Ferland diced it up for third place. Turner trying to slot into
third but Ferland held him off until the checkered came down on Gary
Moore for the win for the modifieds that evening.
Colaneri finished off with a close second and Lima holding on to
third. Gary Moore was
brought to trackside for a victory lap and then an out of car interview
and award with the first place trophy. Star would like to thank Lee
USA Speedway for a great night of racing and also thank them for
including Star in the FUN EVENTS. |
