STAR CLOSES RUNNING SEASON - LEE USA SPEEDWAY |
Star closed its running season for 2010 on September 17 at Lee USA Speedway and what a night it was for the tour! Car haulers were lined up as far as to the street with 25 vintage races cars ready to give the fans a night of good old fashion racing. One by one like a convoy they hauled into the infield pit area with no room to spare. Coupes, Sedans, Pintos Vegas just about every type of vintage racecar was present and ready to go. Star members for all over New England attended the finale for the 2010 season. To start the day Star had two sets of warm-ups. First the Sportsmen division took their time on the track to get ready for the evening events and then the modifieds division took their turns also getting the cars ready for the night racing. Then it was off to racing as the Star Sportsmen took to the track with 14 cars hitting the track and giving it all they had. The pack was tight the pack was fast and positions shifted from lap to lap. Then on the last few laps to go Charlie Wilcox from Ct in his #111 coupe and Wade Worster from Me in his #32 coupe battle for 1st place position. Just one slip up and right behind them was Richard Eastman from Ma in his #0 Pinto and Gary Moore from NH in his #7X coupe. Wilcox holding position but only by inches took the first win for the tour that night. Then it was time for the modifieds to come out and show the fans how modifieds really ran and boy what a show they did. Modifieds running side by side inches apart who was going to take this win? On the half way mark it was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Pinto to take over the lead. Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto gave it all he had but it was Turner to take the second win for the tour that evening. Now the tour was in for a great time as it was “Rides for Kids Night.” Lee lined up all the cars from their divisions and Star, then open up the gates for the kids to take rides around the track in the racecars. Sometimes you could see as many as three kids in one race car at a time. I saw one Star member with two kids on the side of him and one on his lap driving the car. What smiles were on these kids’ faces? Even the clown jumped into one of the Star cars and took a ride around the track. I want to thank all the Star members for getting out there and riding the kids around the track. The kids got a big kick out of this “THANKS GUYS” for being such sports. Then it was time for the feature events for Star. The Sportsmen hit the track first for their 15-lap feature. Ron DaRos from Ct in his #33 Sedan and Richard Tervo from Ma in his #74 coupe lead the pack lap after lap until Gary Moore from NH in the#7 coupe made his pass on the outside groove to take over the lead. Following Moore was Richard Harless from NY in his #8 sedan, but little did they know from the back of the pack Wade Worster from Me in his #32 coupe was coming fast and making his way through the pack. When the checkered flag came down it was Gary Moore in the #7X to take his first feature win with the tour that evening. Robert Harless in the #8 and Wade Worster in the #32 battled for second with Harless taking second spot and Worster topping the pack off with a very close third. Gary Moore was brought trackside for an out of car interview and presented with a first place trophy. Now it was time for the modifieds to come out for their 15-lap feature. James Allen from Ma in his #46 and Brian Robie from NH in his #99 lead the pack around. The pack was tight and no room for passing until Brian Robie shot out of the pack to the front with Bobby Turner in his #7 on his tail. Now the pack was open and passing began. Jamie Ferland from NH in his #194 went to the outside groove to fill in third position but right behind him was Danny Ferland in his #21. Turner on the outside with Robie on the inside side by side with Jamie Ferland in the 194 and Danny Ferland in the #21 right behind them. When the checkered flag came down you had to be at the start finish line to see who crossed over first. And it was Brian Robie in the #99 to take down the last checked flag for the tour for the season and also Brian first feature win with the tour. Bobby Turner took a very close second and to top of the modified for third place was Jamie Ferland in his #194. Brian Robie was brought trackside for an out of car interview and presented with a first place trophy. You never know what Lee USA is going to do. Always a surprise!!!! On the Star finish line was a 7 foot monster taking pictures with the winners. What a way to end a great season of racing for the tour. Congratulations go out to the feature winners Brian Robie and Gary Moore for their first wins with Star.
Star would like to thank Lee USA Speedway for a great night of
racing and also thank them for including Star in the FUN EVENTS.
