LEE USA SPEEDWAY

Lee USA Speedway in Lee , NH was the first stop for the double-header weekend for the Senior Tour Auto Racers.  On June 12th Star rolled into Lee USA Speedway with some of the finest restored race cars from all over New England .  Star was in for a very busy day.  First was the visit of the local pre-school children ages 3 to 5.  The tour took the youngsters through the pits so they could talk to the drivers and sit into the stock cars. It was fun to see how they reacted when the cars started their engines. Holding their ears from the noise but laughing for the enjoyment.  After the pre-school children left, Star was visited by troops of local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.  Older children but just as the younger ones they wanted to sit in the cars and talk to the drivers.  Sometimes there was as many as five into one car at a time.  But if anyone who knows Star they know we are a club that does a lot for children. Star is noted to their helping hand in funding for education and has one of the largest toy drives.  Children are a very large part of the Star group and we were happy to be visited by so many children that day.

Then it was off to afternoon warm ups followed by the evening shows that would bring the Star cars two heats and a feature race. The Sportsmen rolled out onto the track first for their heat.  Wade Woster from Me in his #32 coupe showed the sportsmen how it was done by taking the first checkered flag for the group that evening.  Then the Modifieds hit the track, changing positions on each lap until the last few laps when Charlie Lima in his #10 Eddie Flemke Pinto shot out to take the second victory flag for the evening.  In the feature race in the modified division Dick Crotty from NH with his beautiful restored #32 Pinto took the pack at the half way mark and took the victory for the modified division.  Charlie Lima from Ma in his #10 Pinto and Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto fought to the finished for second place.  Lima only taking Ferland by a nose.  It was a night for the Pintos for the modifieds.

In the Sportsmen feature Skip Stearns from NH in his #7X a 1937 coupe dominated the Sportsmen by taking the checkered for the win.  Wade Woster from Me in the #32 coupe took down a second and to top off the pack with a third was Scott Keddy from NH in his #50 coupe. It was a night for the coupes for the sportsmen.  Both winners were brought to the start/finish line to accept their trophies.  Miss Massachusetts handed out the trophies to the feature winners that evening.  Star would like to thank Lee USA Speedway for a great night of racing and the visits from the local children organizations.
