HUDSON SPEEDWAY - PART 2 OF DOUBLE HEADER

The scene was Hudson Speedway in Hudson, NH on 8/10 for the second half of the “Double Header” weekend for the Senior Tour Auto Racers.   But before Star hit the track of Hudson Speedway they all gathered in the morning at member Skip Stearns’s home, which is only a few miles from the track, to give member Ed Mulligan a hand on fixing his car so he could run that day.  Member Ed Mulligan had mechanical problems with his car the night before at Star Speedway.  The group all gathered together that morning to make sure Ed’s car was up and running.  I have to laugh it looked like a car show on Mammoth Road that morning!  Stock cars were lined up on both side of the street, something you do not see in racing today!  This is why this group is a great group, it not always about racing, it is about friends and having a good time……

One by one Star filled the pit area of Hudson with very little room to spare. Star started their day at Hudson Speedway with warm ups, and the evening would bring the tour 2 heats and 2 features.

First to hit the asphalt was the Sportsmen division for their heat race. “The Three Hometown Boys” ruled this heat!   Skip Stearns from NH in his #7X coupe took down the checkered for the Sportsmen heat.   Joe Gause from NH in his #0 Nova took a second and Gary Moore from NH in the #7 Pinto topped the field off with a third.  The Modifieds were ready to hit the asphalt and lets’ see just who would take this one!  When the checkered flew it was on Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto to pick up the win for the Modifieds.  James Allen from Ma in his #46 Monza pulled off a second and Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto rounded the field off with a third.

At feature time it was the Sportsmen to go out first for their feature race.  Mike Horsch brings his 1/4 car to victory again, 54 years later but with Lee Allard at the wheel.  Lee Allard stated “I won my very first race with the same car at the same track 54 years earlier.”  Now that “History Repeating Its’ Self”.  Scott Keddy from NH in his #50 coupe pulled a second place finish and topping off the field with a third was Robert Harless from NY in his #8 sedan.  All three were brought track side for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

Now it was time for the Modifieds to hit the track for their feature race.  Each lap the line would change and who would come in the top three?  When the checkered flag was dropped it was on Charles Grassie Jr. from Ma in his #15RI to pick up the last victory for the tour this long weekend.  Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 pulled in with a close second and right behind them was Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto to round out the field with a third.  All three were brought track side for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

What a weekend!  A great car count, great racing and all when home the way they came! SAFE AND SOUND!!!
