Canaan
Speedway in
Canaan
,
NH
was the second stop for the double-header weekend for the Senior Tour Auto
Racers. On July 19th
Star cars from MA, NH, CT, RI, VT and PA filled the
Canaan
pits. Canaan Speedway
scheduled the track for the Star cars to practice from 1:00 till 4:00.
As Star got ready to have their warm-ups Mother Nature had another
thought? The rain came and I mean it came!
It poured so hard the grounds were flooded.
I was sure no racing was going to take place that evening.
It rained from 1:00 till 5:00 with a halt as fast as it came!!
The sun broke out and it was off to racing for the Canaan Speedway.
All divisions tow trucks, cars, including Star cars dried off the
track and it was time to go. Star
was schedule for two 10-lap heats and two 15-lap features. Ronnie Bodge
from NH in his beautiful restored antique car paced the Star cars in both
the heats and features. In the
Sportsmen heat it was anyone race. The
battle was on as each lap a different car took over first place.
Only on the last lap James Allen from Ma in his #44 coupe shot to
the front and took the first checked for the tour that evening.
In the modified division who was going to cross the line first?
Every lap brought a new winner until Anthony Kubalak from PA in his
#6 Mayard Troyer car took the lead to take down the second victory for the
tour. Then it was time for the
Sportsmen 15-lap feature race. The Sportsmen put on quite a show.
Tight to the pack bumper to bumper lap after lap until Rick
MacDowell from Ma in his #76 Pinto pulled to the front to take the win for
the Sportsmen 15 lap feature division.
David Scott from NH in his #5 coupe took a very close second.
To finish off third, David Poskitt from Ma in his #77 coupe crossed
only by a nose to beat Dick Murphy in his #V8 coupe.
MacDowell took his victory lap with the checked flag and then had
an out of car interview with photos and presentation of the victory
trophy. Then the modifieds hit
the track for their 15 lap feature. Bill
Cummins from Ma in his #195 Pinto took over the lead to capture the win
for the modified division. Charlie Lima from Ma in his 2X coupe and Skip
Stearns from NH in his #84 Pinto battled for second place.
When the flag came down it was Stearns taking
Lima
by a nose for second place. Charlie
Lima topped off the pack with a third.
Bill Cummins took his #195 around the track for his victory lap and
then had an out of car interview with photos and presentation of the
winner's trophy. Star would
like to thank Canaan Speedway for a great night of racing and for all
their hospitality. Star will
be returning to Canaan Speedway for another great night on racing on
August 16th.
