CANAAN FAIR SPEEDWAY

Saturday, August 13th, featured one of the biggest night’s of the season at Canaan Fair Speedway’s “Awesome Asphalt, as Miller Auto and NAPA teamed up to present a huge night of racing.  Race fans were treated to three; thirty lap Pro Stock features, plus twin twenty lap Bandit features, plus Senior Tour Auto Racers, Super Streets, Pure Stocks, and Daredevils.

Star start their day with afternoon warm ups and the evening would bring the tour 2 heats and 2 features.  To start the evening for Star the sportsmen entered the track first for their heat race.  Ron DaRos from CT in the #33 sedan and Joe Gause from NH in the #99 Vega led the pack until half way then out of nowhere came Joe Keefner from Ma in the #99 Gremlin and Alan Zema from Me in the #43 coupe to take over the led.  It was a tight finish and a close one when Zema crossed over the finish line first leaving Keefner to come in second.  Congratulations goes out to Alan Zema on his first win with the Star Tour.  The modifieds were now entering the track for their heat race.  Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194 Pinto and Charlie Lima from Ma in the #10 Pinto rode side by side with Bob Bateman from RI in his #17 Pinto trying to edge his way in.  The pack was locked and the speeds were high as Lima and Ferland continued to ride side by side.  When the checkered flag came down it was Lima to take the victory for the heat win that evening. When it came to feature time Star member Ronnie Bodge was on hand with his beautiful classic car to pace the features for the tour.  It was fitting to see an antique car pace the field of vintage stock cars.  Kind of walking back to the days when these cars were really used as pace cars. The Sportsmen were on tap first for their 15-lap feature.  Joe Keefner from Ma in his #99 and Ron DaRos from Ct in his #33 sedan led the pack until Keefner went to the front and open the pack up for passing.  Rick MacDowell from Ma in his #76 Pinto followed Keefner and then took over the led from Keefner.  MacDowell and Keefner rode side by side with Joe Gause from NH in his #99 Vega gaining on the leaders.  When the checkered came down it was on MacDowell to take the victory for the tour with Keefner taking another second place finish for that evening.  Joe Gause from NH in his #99 Vega topped the pack off with a third place finish.  The top three were brought trackside for an out of car interview and presentation of trophies.  Then it was time for the modifieds to hit the track for their 15-lap feature.  When the green came down it was Bob Bateman from RI in his #17 to shoot to the front.  But it did not take long for Brian Robie from NH in his #99 Pinto and Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto to take the outer groove and come down on Bateman.  Bateman and Ferland rode side by side until Ferland opened up the pack with Robie and now Bobby Turner from Me in the #7 closing the pack in.  Ferland open a small gap on the field with Turner and Robie fighting for second spot.  When the checkered flag came down it was on Danny Ferland in the #21 to take down the win for the modifieds that evening.  Turner and Robie another photo finish, something we have had a lot of this year, just about every week. With Robie by the skin of his teeth took the second spot and Turner to top off the pack with a third.  The top three were brought trackside for an out of car interview and presentation of trophies.

Now it was a special surprise for the top 6 winners that evening cause it was “Double Trophy Night”.  Yes, each driver of the top three finishes in both Sportsmen and Modifieds received two trophies that evening, one from Miller Auto and one from NAPA.  NAPA hats and Miller tee shirts were also presented.

It was a great night of racing for the Star Tour and what a great show Canaan put off that evening.
Star would like to thank Canaan Fair Speedway for another great night of racing.
